TOYOTA Avensis

The all-new, third-generation Toyota Avensis goes on sale in January 2009, with new styling and a range of new and revised engines and transmissions. Toyota Optimal Drive is the catch-all phrase describing Toyota’s engineering approach to making its engines cleaner and more efficient. The results are significant improvements in CO2 output and fuel consumption compared to the current Avensis, particularly from new 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol units that use a new Valvematic valve control system. The existing D-4D engines have been tweaked to perform better, too.

Built in Britain at Toyota’s factory near Derby, Avensis will be available in four equipment grades and saloon and estate body styles (no hatchback). Emissions start at 134g/km – a strong figure for a D-segment model – for the 2.0-litre D-4D TR saloon model.
